Christian Rogg
heads the DFID’s office in Ethiopia

With an annual budget of £320 million and 65 staff, the office leads the British Government’s ambitious programme to reduce poverty and foster sustainable development in Ethiopia.
Prior to this, he was Head of DFID in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and held senior leadership positions in DFID’s offices in Nigeria (2012-15), Vietnam (2009-12) and Ghana (2006-9). He joined DFID’s Policy Division in London as an adviser in 1999 and subsequently led the Growth Team. He started his career in banking in Germany and worked as an economic development consultant to the World Bank, US Government and Inter-American Development Bank.
Christian was educated at universities in the US, Spain and the UK. He holds a PhD/DPhil in economics from the University of Oxford.

 

Francisco de Asís Lopez Sanz
heads the AECID’s office in Ethiopia


Since 1993, Francisco (LLM) has been working in development matters, with the EU, AECID, UNDP, FIIAPP and as independent consultant.

Francisco has been posted to Belgium, Cuba, Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Afghanistan, Timor-Leste, Egypt, Morocco and Ghana. In addition to his work, Francisco has published op-eds, and a paper on Peace issues: he is a firm believer in the culture of peace principle and the power of symbols as communicative tools.
In 1995, he received an appreciation letter from the EC commissioner responsible for development. In 2006-2007 he was awarded a NATO-ISAF medal and the Spanish Civil Merit Cross. In 2010 he was awarded a Timor Leste medal.

 


Arto Valjas
heads the Cooperation at the Embassy of Finland

Arto (M.Sc. Technology) joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland in 2012 when he started as a Senior Adviser in the Department for Africa and the Middle East in Helsinki.
Before that, Arto has worked as an international civil servant and consultant in over 20 countries in Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Latin America. Arto previous experience includes working in UN agencies and EU institutions.
In addition to having experience in project design, management, evaluation and development cooperation, Arto also management experience in private sector companies.
